Compare the cash needed now, the full monthly payment and what you may owe later. A larger assistance amount is not automatically the better deal. Review the mortgage offer and the separate assistance agreement together.

Check what you give up for the larger amount.
Use the same price, down payment plan and loan type when possible. Compare lender costs, mortgage insurance and any payment on a second loan. Assistance may change the main home loan's terms.
